In Urban Exploration, one expects to have to talk to law enforcement and security personnel on occasion, and I had my first initial experience with that today.

I was visiting an abandoned apartment complex; a sprawling villa with a beautiful courtyard, crumbling brick walls, broken down balconies and forgotten furniture. Several of the windows were broken in, and it made for some great photo opportunities.

However, after roughly a half an hour of exploration, I returned to my vehicle, only to find the local security team waiting for me. Of course, they had several questions that needed to be answered, and they were seconds away from towing my vehicle had I not shown up when I did.

In the end, I was let off with only a verbal trespass.......But I had to relinquish all of my digital media, so I have no pictures to show. I feel robbed, but that's to be expected at times. They don't have the right to take my camera, card, or film, but they CAN ask me to delete any pictures I've taken.

Just a reminder to any future explorers, or current ones, UrbEx IS techinically an illegal hobby without permission. Make sure you arm yourself with what laws you can if you choose to venture. Fallen in ceilings and floors, broken glass and squatters aren't the only dangers. And if you can, keep one of those cameras that you can e-mail your pictures via wifi just in case. It won't matter if you have to delete your pictures, if you already have them elsewhere.
