So, a lot has happened since I was super active on DA. Moved to Washington. Changed my relationship status. Attended my best friend's wedding. Started Transitioning... ...Which brings me to the topic of this post! I had intended for this to be a happy little trans coming out post, complete with a change of my pronouns on DA from he/him to she/her.

HOWEVER: Deviantart apparently doesn't allow changing things like pronouns except for premium membership? Is this transploitation, Deviantart? Truly? I must pay for a simple thing that even Facebook lets me do for free? I'll be contacting support, and I urge any watchers to do the same. There's no reason why changing pronouns should only be available for Paid members, and it seems like a simple and harmless thing to change.

6 Years ago, I began my journey to self discovery on DeviantART.

Why do I say that? Because I believe that art is the truest form of self discovery. It teaches us what we perceive of beauty, what drives our passion, and what we stand for. DeviantART is more than just an art community, it is a community of discovery and expression.

I began on deviantART merely posting color editted pictures and MS Paint colored linearts. In six years I have posted my own hand sketches, poems, literature, I have shared my thoughts on everything from video games to politics and my view on photography. I couldn't have gotten to where I am on this site without the help of my writing partner and my wife, ToAtoneArt She originally introduced me to the site, and it has been constant ever since then. I continue to discover myself thanks to deviantART, the things I like to see, the things I would rather not, and the things I want to show the public about myself. I strive to find that one thing that truly calls me to dA, and to be honest with myself? I have not found it yet. But I will continue to come, to be inspired, and continue posting to find what moves me, and what moves the people who like to see me coming to the site.

Downtown by BluSilvrPaladin I like the sort of dreary feel of this picture taken from the area where I live.

Bat assasin by Xuruki One of the things I like best about being on dA is finding artists that help share a vision. So I've chosen this collab between myself, and my friend Xuruki

Ghostship by PederDingo Urbex is a very strong interest of mine, one I'd love to expound on. So I have a lot of respect and admiration for deviants who do it on a regular basis.

SirDidymusLabyrinth BeadSprite by SerenaAzureth I love the variety of mediums deviants can use. I would have never thought things like this could be made simply of plastic melted beads.

The City of Seven Spears by kerembeyit DeviantART is a great outlet for professional artists as well as amateurs, and a great place for the latter to be discovered.

<da:thumb id="307189017"/> I love that artists are willing to barter their skills with others to bring characters to life. This is my OC Bruce Mondragon from the TalesOfAtonement Book series as done by GruviaPon formerly xmeirinx.

Family Portrait Commission by menelmaranwe And another for Tales of Atonement. These two are my favorite people to commission.

Yamanaka by ExDNiVa09 I think it's great that dA also allows fanart on their website, and even stood up against SOPA to ensure it would always have a place here.

I could go on and on, featuring all of my favorite artists, but instead I will just name them. THese honorable mentions are even more of a reason as to why I think dA is great, and have enriched my own DeviantART Story as I strive to find the same place in this community that they have.

Difficulties

Due to circumstances beyond our control, ToAtoneArt has lost control of her DeviantART account. If you are currently handling any commissions, or other business with her, please contact me via note or feedback message. Thank you.

In Urban Exploration, one expects to have to talk to law enforcement and security personnel on occasion, and I had my first initial experience with that today.

I was visiting an abandoned apartment complex; a sprawling villa with a beautiful courtyard, crumbling brick walls, broken down balconies and forgotten furniture. Several of the windows were broken in, and it made for some great photo opportunities.

However, after roughly a half an hour of exploration, I returned to my vehicle, only to find the local security team waiting for me. Of course, they had several questions that needed to be answered, and they were seconds away from towing my vehicle had I not shown up when I did.

In the end, I was let off with only a verbal trespass.......But I had to relinquish all of my digital media, so I have no pictures to show. I feel robbed, but that's to be expected at times. They don't have the right to take my camera, card, or film, but they CAN ask me to delete any pictures I've taken.

Just a reminder to any future explorers, or current ones, UrbEx IS techinically an illegal hobby without permission. Make sure you arm yourself with what laws you can if you choose to venture. Fallen in ceilings and floors, broken glass and squatters aren't the only dangers. And if you can, keep one of those cameras that you can e-mail your pictures via wifi just in case. It won't matter if you have to delete your pictures, if you already have them elsewhere.
